Traditional and Non-Traditional Composite Applications
At IKONICS AMS, we use Precision Abrasive Machining (PAM) in a wide variety of traditional and non-traditional composite applications across multiple industries. The PAM Process is done in-house using proprietary and patented technologies. Perforations can be virtually any shape, such as round holes, squares, ovals, or slots in composite materials.
The PAM Process does so with high precision and repeatability (to within 50µm) without inducing the stresses and defects associated with conventional machining processes. The resulting perforations have clean edges (no burrs or fibers to remove). MISTRAS (an independent composite testing lab) confirmed stresses and internal damage are significantly minimized with the PAM Process vs. mechanical drilling.
Traditional Composite Applications
There has been an increase in the use of composites within the Aerospace Industry in recent years. Benefits of using composites include: weight reduction, drag reduction, noise reduction, fuel efficiencies, and structural strength.
The PAM Process is a unique perforation method that can produce a variety of precise features, shapes and/or perforations in advanced materials while imparting virtually no stress or damage to the material.
